The Dayak Selako Shamans Oral Tradition: Intermediary Between People, Culture And Religion

The Dayak Shamans of Western Kalimantan Borneo mediate between people and the Makhluk halus or invisible beings. who have their own well-defined roles, live in sky, earth, water other places, with similar needs as humans, relations humans spirits context traditional beliefs are inseparable. Interestingly, these common to both Selako Shamanism Islam. Malay oral tradition has a major influence on culture Kalimantan. In fact, ethnic groups had originated historically from same roots, but later separated by Islam Christianity. Thus, irrespective affiliations religions Christianity Islam, Islamic spiritual healing practiced follow when conducting communication shamanic healing. For Malays, world begins recital verses, forming an essential part identity. Christians too use verses. We argue that Shaman is not only intermediary Dayaks spirits, also Dayak, Christianit religions. mutual values shamanism’s Malays created societal structure based natural cycle life pattern.
